Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is the art and science of using plants to support health and wellbeing.

It takes a holistic approach, exploring all aspects of an individual's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual life, and harnesses the innate healing ability of the human body. It seeks to alleviate symptoms at the same time as addressing the root cause of the issue, to achieve lasting wellness.

Herbalists combine traditional knowledge and the latest scientific research into the healing properties of plants to support health and wellbeing. A herbalist will listen to your needs, struggles and goals; and make suggestions for safe and effective herbs to support you on your healing journey.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of medicinal plants from all parts of the world, all with their own unique properties and characteristics. A herbalist will be able to select herbs that will help your body use its own profound healing abilities to achieve wellness.

Herbal Medicine can be used to treat:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Insomnia

  • Fatigue

  • Digestive issues and disorders

  • Women’s health – menstrual issues

  • Skin complaints

  • Immune system support

  • Common ailments such as coughs and colds

  • And more!

Nature itself is the best physician.

How can I know if herbal medicine will work for me?

Herbalism makes use of traditional knowledge of herbs and evidence-based clinical research to determine the effects of specific herbs. Your herbalist will be able to suggest herbs that work best for your particular issues and concerns.  You can learn more with a free 20 minute consultation call with Rebecca.

How long does it take for herbs to be effective?

This will depend on several factors, including the severity of the issue, the herbs used, the dosage, and the method of administration (i.e. tea, capsule, tincture, etc.) Herbs to soothe indigestion may take effect in as little as 60 seconds, whereas treatments for severe or longstanding issues might take weeks or even months to resolve the problem.

What can I expect during my first appointment?

During your first appointment, your herbalist will conduct a thorough intake and medical history, current concerns and assessing underlying conditions, any medications you are taking, as well as general health and diet.

They will formulate a plan for you that will introduce a herbal protocol over a few weeks. You can expect to receive this by email in 4-5 business days. This stage 1 plan provides you with all the information you will need for about 6 weeks, with the recommended herbs, a detailed daily plan for introducing them, dosage, as well as any other instructions you may need.

There will be a check-in by email or phone after 2 weeks, but you are always welcome to get in touch at any time with questions or concerns.

What can I expect at follow up appointments?

Your second visit will last about 45 minutes to an hour and should take place 4 weeks after your initial appointment. You and your herbalist will discuss your herbal plan, make any changes you need, and begin to formulate a plan and goals for the next six-week period.

Between this visit and your third appointment you will receive your stage 2 plan that you can implement as your stage 1 plan ends. There will be another check-in by email or phone between your second and third appointments to answer any questions or concerns.

During your third appointment, which should be scheduled for about 6 weeks after our second appointment, you will discuss your health issues with your herbalist and formulate a plan moving forward.

Why do you need to know what medications I am taking?

Just as conventional drugs can interact with each other, so can some herbs and drugs.  A trained herbalist can identify and avoid potential interactions. It is important that you inform your herbalist of all medications, herbs, and supplements you are taking.
